That was my exact thought while playing it, it already had such a commanding sound to the voice and projection for a new guitar.

I'd be interested to hear it in a few years!

Guitar definitely projects very well! Commanding playing as well!

A picture of Halland beside the Wingert. This is for reference of the similar size between the two (both 16" lower bout).

And the comparison in DADGAD

A picture of Halland beside the Ryan. This is for reference of the bigger size of the Ryan (16.6 vs Halland's 16").

Gage likes to string his guitars with lights so for the recordings, I restrung all the guitars with the same strings: John Pearse Phos Bronze. The Ryan is set up for mediums, so the lighter gauge was a little lower than expected. I thought it would be a more even comparison with the same strings on all the guitars

I had no idea the Halland was 16" wide, you'd never think that with it on your lap. Super comfortable

Was that due to the tighter waist as compared to the wingert and the cathedral?

Incredible demo guys! Gage Halland is one of our favourite luthiers! His tone is unlike any other, being incredibly FAT. That almost makes it a "love it or hate it" kind of guitar that isn't suitable for everyone, but regardless which camp you're in, you'd certainly not be able to deny what a great guitar he can build.

Almost everyone who stopped by my shop to play the Halland we used to have in store would say something along the lines of "wow, this guitar sounds very different" within 10 seconds of playing it.

I personally feel nothing can replace or top his guitars for people who love to play slow haunting melodies. Not to say his guitars aren't versatile, but they're in their own league for that particular style.

Here is a video we took of the Halland OM-C Sitka/Rosewood. Please skip to the 2 minute mark to skip all the talking and listen to the playing. I'm particularly fond of his demo because it is perhaps the most accurate representation of any guitar we've recorded so far despite the limited equipment used to record this back then. But you can really hear how rich the guitar is from the fullness of the fundamental.

Speaking of demos by Marcus, this one of a cedar brazilian rosewood Halland OM-H that is owned I believe by JJI is definitely a recording that I think displays the character of a halland clearly.

It looks like Paul Heumiller is just lightly stroking the guitar and the guitar sounds like it is being normally played which hints at its openness and responsiveness as well as its dynamic range and higher threshold of volume and power.
