How much is this Terada classical worth? (with pics)
It's a Model 500. I tried looking it up but couldn't find much info. If it's true that Terada stopped making classicals around 1970, then should be at least 40+ years old?
What tonewoods does it have? Does it have a solid top, back and sides? TIA! |

Terada made some very nice guitars. My daughter has a dreadnaught that is very nice. You can tell if the top is solid by looking at the edge of the wood in the sound hole. If it is solid it will look like one piece of continuous wood, not layers, and the grain can be seen going all the way though the wood.
I doubt the back and sides are solid, though.

That is hard to say without knowing if the top is solid, and also seeing photos of the back and sides and hearing what it sounds like. But if it's in excellent condition with a solid top and sounds very good, maybe $200.

Terada is still in business. They made many of the Epiphone Elitist series and continue to make the high end Gretsch modles.
As to value.. hard to say.. do you own it or are you considering buying it? Here is how I would assess it if I were buying it. 1. Cosmetic condition 2. String height at the 12th fret and how much saddle is left. 3. Tone 4. Playability 5. Is the top solid 6. Are the backs and sides solid 7. Rosewood backs and sides or other I would start by thinking $200 and anything negative will be at about $50 a whack, anything positive would ad some arbitrary value. The average 70's Japanese "factory" made guitar has limited value. I believe that $200 would be fair as posted previously. In looking at the photl again.. If the fingerboard is rosewood and not ebony, $150. The wood on the back in the label shot looks like mahogany...this brings me down to $100. |
