That is a neat story, Glenn. So nice when those who inspire us also live up to our expectations.
Great tune, too! One of my daughters and her husband will be living in Ithaca starting next summer. After reading your story I guess I'll just sit at the airport and wait for Tommy!

Very nice story, Glenn! I'm sure it must've been a very inspiring encounter -- as evidenced by the original piece that you came up with. Well done on a beautiful guitar!

Thank you B-Nads!
Regarding the flow, I suppose that comes from having learned a few TE songs, such as "Man With The Green Thumb." Tommy is so good with his use of the Travis pick that learning a few of his songs really tends to embed the rhythm concept for the Travis pick into a person's brain and fingers. Thanks so much for listening and for commenting! - Glenn

Hey Glenn, I believe you posted about you TE encounter in Syracuse before, at least I seem to have a memory of it.
Great tune and performance! I know you mention The Man With the Green Thumb but I think I hear a little Lewis & Clark influence. Anyway great job. What is recording set up? That was well done also |

Yes, I have mentioned my encounter in the Syracuse Airport with Tommy before. You have a good memory! And yes, there may be as much of "Lewis & Clark" in my own song as "Man with the Green Thumb." They both use a form of the Travis Pick, but "Lewis & Clark" is a much more straightforward Travis pick. Man with the Green Thumb has an extra note or two in the pick where TE adds his index finger in there to make a slightly different rhythm. So your observations are very good! I record the video and audio tracks separately. I usually erase the audio track from the video recording once it's in the video editing software. I record the audio to Cubase in my computer using stereo Rode NT5 small diaphragm condenser mics, both with omni capsules. I also use an Audio Technica AT4050 set in omni mode to pick up room sound, which has a little natural reverb but not much. I posted an explanation on this thread of how I do my separate audio and video recordings and get them in synch. When I sing, I use the AT4050 set in cardioid mode. I hope I've answered your question adequately. If you need specifics, please PM me. Thanks for listening! - Glenn

Thanks Glenn, my recording question was mostly about the mics and software setup. So yes you answered me.
BTW my comment about similarities w/ L&C was not specifically about the bass movement, it's more about just the whole feel and flow of the tune in total. Whatever that means! |
