Default Jazzmaster

Has anyone tried a 60's Fender Jazzmaster Laquer...from the description they look good...wonder what "laquer" means. Its a new model at $999...seems to have all of the same stuff as the American Vintage for a lot less? Would love some first hand info on this...the Fender site isn't too helpful.

"Lacquer" refers to the finish - the classic Fenders from back in the day were finished in lacquer, as are many of the higher-end models today (others are finished in polyester/polyurethane)...

I just got the $799 Fender Jaguar and really like it. The only mod is I installed a Mastery Bridge.

Thanks for the input...the specs seem to be the same for the "laquer" model ($999) and th American Vinatge ($2200) ...whats the catch I wonder? I have been lookng to replace the 62 Jazzmaster that I sold a million years ago for $200!!! Yikes that still hurts.

Generally speaking, I don't like Jazzmasters. I'll give you my reasons. For one thing, all the circuitry required for the slider switches (which basically boost bass, mid-range or treble frequencies) meant that Fender scooped out too much body wood, and the guitars don't sustain as well as Teles or Strats. For another thing, the pickups had an audible hum to them which only got worse the more you turned the volume up. This problem was aggravated by the fact that Fender, as usual, made no effort to shield the electronics in the guitar at the factory. It's a cool looking guitar, but not Leo's best design.

My '65 Red Jazzmaster, sold in 1975 after I destroyed it with a refinish job, was completely shielded with hard copper sheet metal. I did not have noise problems with that guitar, as I recall. My gripe is the floating bridge...
