I assume we're talking about the same video? But yes he's pretty incredible.

yes, it's from his instructional video. i love the part where he says something about needing to know more unless you plan to only go from D to G all your career. i can't remember the line now.

This video had a HUGE influence on my playing. I remember slavishly working on Ex.20 as a teen - never quite got to his level and I didn't really understand what I was doing but it definitely got my fingers working.

I always enjoy hearing Tuck Andress play. He is SO good and SO knowledgeable. And what a lovely sound he gets out of that Gibson L5. I think he has a custom pickup in the bridge pickup that gives it that bell-like tone.

Besides the obviously terrific performance, it's neat to actually see his L-5CES before he tore it apart! It's still got both humbuckers and a full suite of stock electronics in the old video. Sweet. And coincidental that I should run across this just now, as I'm playing my own blonde L-5CES, also finger style, at the same coincidental moment.
Also I guess he eventually got contact lenses so he no longer had to time his eyeglass adjustments to the music!

Tuck is SUCH a great player... he still gave lessons, back when I lived in Oakland in the 80's and 90's... I knew a couple of guys who worked with him, and each of them had their own interpretation of his "style", I guess you'd call it...
Reckless Precision has long been one of my favorite records... Tuck stands head and shoulders above the crowd, at least with his guitar in his hands! (pun intended...) Although, he DID look eerily reminiscent of Michael Jackson in a few of those shots...

Very nice. I have never listened to much of him, but what I have heard has been excellent. Thanks for posting!

What an idiot of a cameraman! Do a search of "Tuck and Patti".

I don't think I've ever met any guitar player who doesn't like Tuck Andress. When I was an undergrad in the 80s, he and Patti were still doing their free concert in the park thing in downtown Palo Alto. I never missed an opportunity to catch them there.
This is a cool video, though—it's hard to imagine he was ever that young. [digs out signed copy of Tears of Joy for another listen] John
