I use a NeckUp on all of my guitars. I have a 5 level spinal fusion. The NeckUp saved me. Use it on my right leg for 90% of my playing and put it on my left (classical position) with my classical guitar. It did mark up one nitrocellulose finished guitar (13 year old so it wasn’t an issue of a finish that wasn’t hardened yet) but has not affected any other nitrocellulose guitar, nor the varnished ones. You can use it on a poly guitar and just leave it on, but I remove it as soon as I’m done. I use the Mylar sheets it comes with on my practice guitars that are played everyday.

I think a six-pack of beer is the traditional footrest to consider.

I used to get neck aches from looking at my left hand when playing. Be mindful to look ahead as much as possible.
That's the one I have used for years. Also have one that can adjust to be flat.
