A few years ago Collings had a vertical burst guitar at the NAMM show (lighter bottom half, darker top when in the playing position). I called it the Tequila Sunrise burst. I forget what they called it and cannot find any images handy. It looked OK but .... weird.

Those sound boards are carbon fibre and not wood. They look very appealing to me.

It looks wrong because it looks depressed in the center. The sunburst has the middle look like it is proud of the rest of the top. At least to me.
