Default Slot heads on a dreadnaught?

Went to a warehouse sale for a local music store over the weekend. They had 2 Taylor 510 dreadnaughts with slot heads. 14 fret. One was listed as a 2016 with ES2, couldn't see the details on the other as it was in the back row of guitars on stands.

Thought it was very unusual to see slot heads on a non-12 fret guitar.

personally, i really don'6 care for the looks of Taylors so I've never bothered with them, but I DO know of someone that has a 14 fret dread taylor with slotted headstock.
It looks decidely odd to my eye.

However, as a dedicated fan of the wider fretboard, I have 12 fret design flattops and most (the Martin style) have slotted headstocks.

Ergonomically, I have foud that they are far easier to use than slabheads.
Reason? when you ar standing , or siting, adjusting the tuning means that the tuner heads are facing your fretting hand. you dlt have to bend your wrist in order to adjust.

Some say that string changing is more difficult and that simply isn't true - just unfamilair to some initially.
See my old video:

If it is not possible to lay your guitar on a work top when changing, it is no more difficult that on a slab head.

Even on these:

Slot head on a 14-fret looks weirder than a paddle head on a 12-fret, that's for sure. I don't know why anyone would put a slot head on a 14-fret, but then again, I don't know why Taylor does a lot of the things they do. To each their own.

The guy probably got fired for making that guitar. Everyone knows you don't put a slothead on a 14 fret guitar.

Just wondering, is there a functional reason for slothead on a 12 fret, or is it only aesthetics?

I like a slot head on anything 14 or 12 fret, dreads, OMs, doesnt really matter to me. Traditionalists will say it just doesnt look right but I disagree. Saying that I also quite like a solid peg head on a 12fret!

I prefer the paddle or slab headstocks probably because I have owned more of them over the years and am totally used to them. I do think the slotheads look cool on some guitar though. I just hate changing the strings on 'em. If I did it more often, it probably wouldn't bug me so much.

Best,
Jayne

I do not mind a slot head on a 14 fret guitar nor a slab head on a 12 fret, but I don't like the look of a cutaway on any acoustic guitar, especially when it's being played by someone who never goes past the 12th fret.

What type of tuning head should I have on a 13 fret instrument? or is it gonna be weird no matter what headstock it has?
