Congrats!! You may have the best set of Madi Martin has ever put on a guitar, certainly that I've ever seen on any D-28A 1937. The extra-thin finish package is normally only available on the Aged version, so you do indeed have one-of-a kind here.

Is the neck any different on this one off, or still really thin in 1st position becoming super thick by the 6th fret ?

I really enjoyed your story Dave. You're great at storytelling! I've been GASing for a good solid bluegrass guitar for about a year now. Your story is/isn't helping depending on point of view....

Thanks everyone! I’m enjoying my birthday for sure. I thought the neck would be more difficult to adjust to. But, so far so good!

Beautiful story, beautifully written. And, well the guitar, that is beautiful, too!

Congratulations, my fellow Chicagoan. Enjoy that birthday of yours!

Happy birthday! We are the same age, though I have you beat by a few months.

It is always a joy to read when someone acquires a special instrument. I enjoyed reading this very much. Congrats!

Second post in this thread to say that with this prototype, I hope Martin is going to be using the extra thin finish on all of their Authentics at some point, not just on the Aged D-28A/D-18A. Something to think about for Summer NAMM...
