Forgotten masterpiece by Fernando Sor

Last Friday, the Valentine's day, was Fernando Sor's birthday and let's keep the celebrations going! Here's a very beautiful yet rarely heard Divertissement op. 62 for two guitars. Played here by Timo Korhonen and Patrik Kleemola on the Weissgerber guitars from the 1920's.

I've never heard that piece. Those guitars are beautiful and sound wonderful!

Sor actually had a career in the army and as a police officer earlier in his career. He was forced to leave from Spain with Napoleon's French troops because of the political circumstances and he never was allowed to return to his native land again. In his penultimate work of his, this somewhat nostalgic duo, one can hear the echoes of the spanish rhythms expecially in the last mouvement the Polonaise.
