Smile T Matsuoka M35

Hi there,

I have an old guitar which is a Matsuoka. I have been trying to find out some information about the rough value but am not sure how to do that other than picking peoples brains here!

It is a T Matsuoka 6 string classical 4/4 size guitar, with the model number M35 on the sticker inside the body. It is in fairly good condition (very few scratches, only a little bit of the varnish is depleted on the back where it rubs against the body during use). I understand that T Matsuoka is the son of the original Matsuoka so may be less valuable?

Any information on rough year of make, possible starting value (AUD $) would be really appreciated.
I'm looking forward to your suggestions!

Someone else had the same question 5 years or so ago... Not much help there either.

The Music Swop Shop in Carlton, Victoria had one a few years ago.

Toshiaki took over Ryoji's shop in 1986. The 35 designates a cedar top, and likely a beginner guitar. Is it a laminate top or solid? High action?

If the action is high with no room on the saddle for lowering it, then I would hesitate to price it at more than $40 US. If the action is medium to low, $300 to 400 would seem reasonable. Is my assumption correct that MrsGee doesn't know either what 'action' is or how to measure it?

You would be correct in assuming I have no idea on 'action' or how to measure it! It was my guitar during my highschool years, but from memory my parents paid about $700 AUD or thereabouts. So around 20 some years ago.
I have no idea if it is a solid cedar top or laminate, but for what my parents paid I would hope it is solid cedar!

I was not a beginner at the time, I was studying with a top classical tutor to potentially audition for the Music Conservatorium in my state. But life went in a different direction. I haven't played for years.

But you have piqued my curiosity and I have googled and will be measuring as soon as I can find a tape measure!

Solid cedar is likely.

A googled source recommended a tape measure to measure action?
