you were not seeing incorrect. it's the video that I made that was very bad. I manage to remove most of the external layers, there were 2 layers coming off.

Now there is 1 layer that is still whole, withs small pieces of the middle layer on the corners, but it's very thin - I ordered a piece of brass so I can try to cut out a Plate Mate-like piece myself and reinforce it.

So what I'm gonna do is try to make install this brass as a plate mate. If that doesn't work I will try to put cut out a maple plate and glue on top of the last thin layer of this old plate - I'm not gonna remove it because I am sure I would damage the soundboard.
