Default Beautiful songs about Nature and depth of life?

Hi,
I'm looking for some really beautiful songs about nature, the connection to nature, Also somewhat melancholic or deep songs about life. Also I'm fine with them being religious, it's not an issue for me.

So far My favorites are
  • Vincent - Don McLean
  • Death Cab for Cutie Follow You Into The Dark
  • Forever a child - Fia
  • The Maker - Chris August
  • Country roads - John Denver
  • Dust in the Wind - Kansas

Your Bright Baby Blues by Jackson Browne. Nothing to do with nature but it sure is melancholy! By the time Lowell George hits the first note of his slide solo I'm nearly in tears

The Last Resort by the Eagles is partly about the (loss of) nature, and is plenty sad, as well.

If you hunt around in Van Morrison's catalog you'll find some pretty deep and introspective stuff. It occurs to me I'm showing my age here, most of this stuff is 40 years old!

If you're not an old geezer like me check out Jason Isbell-- Cover Me Up comes to mind.

The fallen leaves that jewel the ground
They know the art of dying
And leave with joy their glad gold hearts
In the scarlet shadows lying

(Once described by Bob Dylan as the best song he heard in the UK at that time.)

Protest song about an oil spill

Harvey Reid, "Silver Blue" from his "Of Wind and Water" album.

Great song, great fingerstyle playing.

Silver Blue
In the first light of dawn, they take their tiny boats to the sea again
Just a thin wall of wood between a body and a cold, cold grave
Every working day, they offer themselves to the waves
Come sun, come rain, come winter
Come sun, come rain, come winter
To draw a hard living from the icy water with a simple prayer

Let me make it to the shore before the night and the thunder
Steer me clear from the rocks that will cut this wood asunder
Water, oh water of silver blue
Water, oh water of silver blue
Don't take me today

Sometimes in the night, in some dusty place amid the endless plains
I yearn for the sea, and the silver blue fills my eyes again
I can hear seabirds calling and the foghorn's lonely warning drone
Blue water, calling me home
Blue water, calling me home
And I pray that I'll return, to cross that last hill to see the blue again

Take me back to the water before the years are all gone
Don't let me die where the dust clouds roll and the brown rivers run
Water, oh water of silver blue
Water, oh water of silver blue
I will return some day

Why do we need to stare at the sea? We flock like pilgrims to the shores
I stand before the blue; I wonder like so many must have wondered before
I feel huge, like the world is mine, and smaller than one grain of salty sand
Water, oh water of silver blue
Water, oh water of silver blue
We'll all return some day

Let me make it to the shore before the night and the thunder
Steer me clear from the rocks that will cut this wood asunder
Water, oh water of silver blue
Water, oh water,of silver blue

"Into The Mystic" by Van Morrison

We were born before the wind
Also younger than the sun
Ere the bonnie boat was won as we sailed into the mystic
Hark, now hear the sailors cry
Smell the sea and feel the sky
Let your soul and spirit fly into the mystic

And when that foghorn blows I will be coming home
And when that foghorn blows I want to hear it
I don't have to fear it
I want to rock your gypsy soul
Just like way back in the days of old
Then magnificently we will float into the mystic

And when that foghorn blows you know I will be coming home
And when that foghorn whistle blows I got to hear it
I don't have to fear it
I want to rock your gypsy soul
Just like way back in the days of old
And together we will float into the mystic

The crystal gay softness unbroken by sunlight,
And rainbows have died for the day.
A pine needle pillow of dreamed-upon memories,
Walked over winds blown away.

Time doesn't enter my singular solitude,
Mysteries of night thoughts come begging to me,
Where lonely well-meaning is only allowable,
Thoughts of my past bring my present to me.

I laugh at my lyrics while singing to nightbirds,
The words only mess up the tune.
And count all the stars 'til I run out of numbers,
And find that I'm sleeping too soon.

Night is for laughing or walking a quiet path,
Lying in clover on top of a hill.
I lay here dreaming of sailing on silver wings
Morning comes dancing and I'm dreaming still.

(Chorus #1)
And I'm off on a high country caravan, gone again,
Following the ones who went before;
Don't think that I'm going back again,
I couldn't stand the games of man,
I just won't play at all no more.

I sit in the sunrise and search for the morningstar,
Fighting the sun to be seen.
Standing in springtime and watching the trees working,
Changing the dead leaves to green.

Daylight it decorates all that it falls upon,
Everything 'round me it feels like my own.
Walking a straight path from here over yonder way.
Me feeling happy, for once all alone.

(Chorus#2)

And I'm off on a high country caravan,
Where I've been is all a sin I'd just as soon forget;
Can't see no reason to look behind,
I might find some of the kind I've seen before,
We've already met.

Out across the valley on through the creek bed.
My footprints are seen by the dove.
And he flies on by me and calls his love mate,
The smile fits my face like a glove.

Down in the gulleys the going get rougher now,
Turn loose my footsteps I go where they will.
If you pass this way you might possibly find me here,
Staring at God from the top of a hill.

If you like solo acoustic instrumental music, check out Daria Semikina’s YT channel and her playing of her own arrangements and that of several Japanese fingerstyle player/composers. Beautiful stuff with natural and organic themes. Also check out Will Ackerman and of course Michael Hedges.

If you want to get serious about this stuff?

Start thumbing through Van Morrison's catologue... he's been writing brilliantly about the state of this human condition for decades... and I'm not talking about the "Pop" records (of which there aren't actually too many!)...

Check out "Veedon Fleece", "Common One", "No Guru, No Method, No Teacher"... or simply go back to the beginning of his solo days and listen closely, several times, to the masterpiece, "Astral Weeks"...

They don't call him Van the Man for nothing! As far as literate, well-read, deep music goes, Van's pretty much "It" in the pop music world...
