Default The very real danger of Valentine's Day

So I finally make it to the front of a decent line to pay for some Valentine's roses this evening, when I overhear the two ladies behind the counter talking to each other:

Clerk 1: "This is why it's bad for us to work in the floral department."

Clerk 2: "What do you mean?"

Clerk 1: "We see ALL these guys here buying flowers and candy and stuff for their women. Then we get home and look at our guy like 'WELL?!'"

Made me in a slightly smug yet relieved kind of way...

Hi

Yesterday i went into our corner shop to buy my wife's flowers -

I asked the nice lady owner if they sold flowers, she said "yes" before taking me down an aisle and poining at McDougal baking flour!

It reminded me of a great comedy duo we had here in the UK called The Two Ronnies and their "Fork Handles" sketch - is on Youtube and well worth a watch.

I avoid the lines, and the possibility that I forget, and have them delivered. Put it on the calendar and order them a week before. Valentine's Day is not something I think about or would remember 50% of the time until it was too late.

When I demonstrated to my wife that the dozen roses purchased on valentines day cost in excess of $100 delivered have a substantially lower price any other time of the year.

You could send roses next week and save more than $50 for the exact same order. That's when she agreed that sending flowers for Valentines day are a crazy idea.

We exchange cards and go out to dinner for Valentines Day

She get roses for our wedding anniversary and her birthday... Thank you google calendar for the reminders...

My wife get's a new silly coffee mug with hearts on it or something. The kind they might sell in the seasonal section of the grocery store. Yes, it's a silly gift but it's a tradition and no sillier than roses. Anyway, I picked one up for her last week while they still had a good selection. It ends up that SHE needed a gift and decided to re-gift that mug. So I'm going to run out after work and hope they have another.

It's not a big deal either way, it just made me chuckle that I'll be in the last minute husband line tonight.

My wife has never been a fan of these types of “holidays”. She prefers I do something personal for birthdays, anniversaries, and other days typically associated with romantic gift giving. That’s why every year for Valentine’s Day I write her a love letter. So far, she’s never been unhappy with my “gift”.

My wife was commenting about how when she was at the grocery store today all these young guys, many with little children in tow, were buying flowers for the women in their lives. She said it was very sweet.

I ordered a bouquet of flowers 6 weeks ago that was delivered yesterday. My wife actually helped pick it out and she was very happy when the flowers arrived via FedEX. So my wife is very happy with her flowers. My mother always used to bristle when I bought her flowers, as if it was such a waste of money. But my wife really loves flowers. It's something I can do for her that she really appreciates.

Local news did their annual Valentine's Day stories, included a note that on average men spend about $300 on a gift while women spend around $60. So,..............

I'm usually one of those guys who you see staring blankly at the card rack the evening before Valentine's Day. But not this year! I was out shopping a week or so ago and remembered to get a card while I was out. Yesterday morning, I got up early, wrote some sweet things to my wife on the card, put it where she'd find it when she got up, and then left for work. I was so proud of myself for having remembered to buy the card ahead of time. About 9AM, I get a text from my wife that says, "I LOVE the card! Happy Valentine's Day to you and happy anniversary!" Wut...anniversary? Oh crap! Note to self: stay humble. lol
