I don’t know if your camera isn’t capturing the grain in that top but it sure looks to be some extremely tight grain??? Is that Red Maple Fred? Looking great so far and I look forward to following along.

Tim its tight grain but the phone photo is not as detailed as it could be. As for the maple I have no idea, bought it for its looks and there was no information on species available. It is a softer maple and the neat thing is under finish the figure will be outstanding though much browner than I usually see.

+1 on that lovely maple, colored almost like Spanish cedar or cherry. Very original look, should be great finished product!

+2 on that maple, Fred. No apologies or explanations needed, it’s wonderful.
I know you’ll enjoy working it!

Hey Fred, first—Happy New Year! Next, what did you use for this rosette? Can you elaborate a bit on that striking ring?

Happy New Year Steve

I found a turning round of Spalt Maple on the wood to works web site and sliced it up for a dozen rosettes. Tristan's nylon has the 1st piece from this set the nice thing is the pieces are large enough and have a enough variation to allow me to get a slightly different look on each one I use. I am saving the cutoffs so I can do some segmented rosettes also.

Thanks—it’s lovely. Your guitar is more proof of the startling variety in maple!

What a great looking build Fred! I'm sure it will also sound fantastic. Your turning to the dark side (nylon)!

Not really Tristan but am enjoying adding another style to my repertoire.

I bet our fellow members would enjoy a video of your Madi/sinker cedar nylon string.
