Default Martin SP treble strings: are they available singly?

For many years I was a dyed-in-the-wool Pearse 80/20 fan, but about six months ago, I switched over to Martin SP phosphor bronze. Unfortunately, I have experienced fairly consistent breakage of the high E, .012" string: four times in the last three months, on two different guitars. Because I'm particular, I like to replace the string with an exact duplicate, so that I won't have one bronze and one steel treble string. I've hunted all over for a source of Martin SP singles, but can only find the wrapped strings. Is anyone aware of a source for the bronzed trebles?

Martin won't sell individual strings. I've called Martin customer service and they've replaced the whole pack for a single string,.. really not ideal but that's what they'll do.

I realize that Martin makes very economical strings, but imho if you've broken four E-strings...sounds like a good reason to go back to John Pearse.

If that isn't an option, Strings and Beyond sells singles.
I went over and looked before posting.
For the gauges you want, it seems your choice is Elixir and Elixir.
And they are $1.50 a string.

Another random thought just hit me.
You might have a problem at the nut or the string post if you are consistently snapping The same string. Particularly if it's snapping at the same place.

In the UK strings direct.com also sell individual SP strings.

But I use 80/20 SP and I am surprised you can break them - they are supposed to be stronger and I've never broken any brand of string in at least 20 years. I think maybe you have an issue at the nut?

I never break strings. And these have consistently been at the ball end. The most recent was this morning the first time I tried to bring the string up to pitch. That's just not normal, and I've never had a brand of strings with this consistency of trouble. I like trying different strings, so I've used many varieties in 30 years. Juststrings seems to only carry the wrapped strings, not the trebles.

Well, I just got a reply from Jim Clark at JustStrings:

Quote:
I’m afraid the CF Martin no longer offers single strings. You can get the same type of bronze plated steel strings with the GHS Laurence Juber bronze plated steel strings. http://www.juststrings.com/laurencej...lestrings.html

Any of the Thomastik Infeld plain steel strings are bronze plated: http://www.juststrings.com/plainstee...lestrings.html
I just ordered a half dozen .012" and (just in case) .016" GHS strings.

Case closed!
