Interesting that all the big box stores are offering the ES2 on these 314s already - haven't seen any of the preferred stores (here) chiming in on this thread.
To the OP - audition both models plugged in to see which sound you prefer (ES1 or 2) - some people have said they don't prefer the new over the old.

Woohoo!!! I bought the Taylor 314ce! I love it. Every low notes I hit on the low strings sound so much more solid.
If I want to get a custom pick-guard with a turquoise color with like flowers and possibly engrave or even have a sticker of my name on the fretboard, does anyone know a site or store that does that? |

Congrats, and welcome to the 314ce club. Which one did you end up getting -- the ES1 or ES2?
Both are good systems -- just different. I like the ES1 pretty well.

I ended up getting the ES2. ES1 was sold to someone when I got there. It's all good though. I'm planning to record with a microphone.

According to Ebay, that's about the going rate for each of those guitars. Maybe you guys could tell some actual names of the locals who are selling them with warranty for $850.....that WOULD be a great deal. And Sweetwater has the new one listed with the new ES2 electronics.
I'd be tempted to buy the older one at that price if it includes the case. |

Enjoy! I bought my 314 about 8 months ago. It's really opening up now. I put a set of Martin FX 80/20 on there a couple of weeks ago and it's just singing now.

Expression System Changed in 2010
My 314CE is from 2010. In early 2010, Taylor changed the Expression System slightly. Mine was built in March of 2010 and is one of the earlier ones with the "new" system.
I LOVE my 314CE and wouldn't part with it. The $1,200-ish price above is about what I paid for it new (sales floor model clearance, so "store played") in 2010.

I personally think the ES1 sounds really "electric guitar like". I also hate the ugly knobs that stick out of the upper bout on every version of the ES. Between the two, I'd have probably bought the older version, riped out the ES, and instaled either a Fishman or K&K. If I was dead set on the ES2 I'd buy from one of our forum sponsors. Since you already have it, I hope you enjoy it. In the future, you may want to consider shopping with one of our forum sponsors. Beating GC's price on a new Taylor should be pretty easy. Also you could have gotten a quote on a brand new 314ce as well as a 314c. Taylor will happily build a cutaway without electronics, they just tend not to on their spec instruments because they make a lot of profit on the electronics. Every time I have bought an instrument from one of our forum sponsors I have saved several hundred over buying at GC.
