The danger in this case is heat (although thievery could be another!).

Heat plays havoc with glue and wood:

1. glue weakens, and bridges and braces can separate
2. dry wood shrinks, and can cause cracks - humidifying sometimes closes them, but the damage is done.
3. with enough heat, finishes will become gooey.

Good temperature rules:

1. don't warm up a cold guitar too quickly (the finish with crack), and
2. don't leave a guitar in the summer in a car even for a brief period...period.

Several good general rules:

1. don't spit into the wind, and
2. don't tug on Superman's cape.
