Ahhh... any day now I'm going to get a text from Jayson telling me that he's starting. The last year and a half has been easy, this is torture.

There is too little information on this luthier on this forum, so a build page of a Bowerman guitar is very welcome. Marcus of Golden Era Guitars speaks very highly indeed of him so I am looking forward to seeing and hearing a clip of the finished guitar at the end of this thread (hint! hint!).

Oh Jayson is about as good as a luthier gets. I've played almost all the famous Martin style builders (as have some of my Bowerman customers), and it seems like Jayson is hard to beat especially for how affordable this guitars are, I don't think there's a better value for money builder out there! You're in for a real treat buddy. His guitars keep getting better too, I've played a few throughout the years, and have a new one in store right now which is probably the best of his work I've played, absolutely incredible!

And yes, his website is probably over 10 years old hahah but his 2022 base price is still only about $5.5K? Extremely reasonable. His Brazilian Rosewood up charge is on the lower end too despite some of the crazy prices we are seeing today haha

Alright, officially rolling.

Got an email on Friday looking to hammer down some of the final details.

He offered up a torrified version of the "Cook Shack" sitka that "came out a little splotchy," but since we're doing a sunburst it won't matter. Says it's "nice and glassy" with increased stiffness after the torrification and "about what you're going for" tonally.

So I'm going to go ahead and go with that.

Here's that top joined up and sanded. Salvaged, torrified, a ton of silking and no runout. Should have some mojo.

That little bear claw figure will be under the pickguard. I kind of dig the way it looks as is, but it will be under a sunburst.

That top looks fantastic. Torrefaction pulls out some of the lighter components of the wood, so that plus the "cook shack" background will make this top quite unique.

Glad to see the build progressing!

Can't wait to see this build.
I just happen to be reading a biography of Jayson's grandfather, the legendary University of Oregon track coach and Nike co-founder. It's a very interesting story of a family with deep roots in our state. I wondered if there was a family relationship when I first heard about Jayson (here, I believe) and, sure enough, it's right there in the book.

Interesting. As a track guy myself--a hammer thrower in college, and a part time track coach-- I wondered that too, but never asked.

I’ve owned three Breedlove Revivals built under his influence and direction. Really wish I still had either of the first two but the current DM isn’t going anywhere. Those instruments are a great marriage of influences resulting in a West Coast riff on an East Coast theme: built with an obvious, deep appreciation for Martin but not derivative.

Would love to find myself in position one day to afford on of his. Congrats and best wishes for those of you awaiting guitars from Jayson. I expect you’ll be delighted at first and delightfully content in the long run.

Got some pics.today...looking good. I'm digging the look of that top (and the back and sides too)... almost don't want to cover it up with a sunburst. Lots of character, and nice rich color. That little knot (not actually a knot, but a little bearclaw wiggle) will be under the pickguard.

Smile Burst???

I, too, would be very hesitant to cover the top with the Sunburst…

It’s going to be a FINE axe

I'm going to have to think about it, it's going to be around the end of the month before it gets finished (I guess from the look it must have a sealing coat on there now).

I'm wondering how it would look up a bit closer... there's some unevenness in the color. Jayson gave me this top as basically free upgrade since he wasn't happy with the appearance after the torrification process... a bit "splotchy" as he called it. I think you can see a bit of that on the upper bout.

I don't like most sunbursts but a good hand rubbed loar type or violincello type version can look very nice, and with a top already coloured like your torrified top, that may come out exceptionally good looking...
