The guitar is absolutely beautiful! I'm curious about your bridge clamps. Where did you get them, or did you make them yourself?

I bought those clamps from the estate of my peer, Michael Hemken, who passed a couple of months ago. I had not seen them before. I have used a 3 clamp system for many years, and think the 5 clamp system may produce better results. There was no problem, but they are Uber cool.

On my way out of town, I stopped briefly to check the freshly strung up Take 2, and to play it against the earlier mad rose, and it was pretty eye-opening. Since both were built for the same player, much of the builds is nearly identical, so it really allows one to hear the differences in the choices of materials. Take2 truly shows itself off - the very high-quality tight grain rw that Bruce has and really knows well produces a clarity and tone that it is impossible to not love - for a fingerstyle non-singer, its just plain wow - . But that said, there is a quality to the mad rose that lends itself so nicely to a smooth, blended tone that may be preferable for a singer or to complement other instruments. I had to keep playing one against the other before I could decide -
Clearly, the best way to deal with these is to take both -

Thanks Tad for the report on Take 2. Sounds like I'm going to love it!
It seems like you've become the beta tester for Bruce's new creations. What a good job to have!

Looks like there is some glitch in the page I just made for my latest guitar, an FT-15-C-JB/2 in a wood I cannot name for the time being, and which you may not either. I will fix the page when I have a moment. I name the top as Adi on the page, but it is German.

Whatever it is, it's a very fine set of wood. Beautiful.

Today I heard from a "customer" from way back in 1974 or so. I was demo-exhibiting for two weeks at the Ontario Science Center in a show called "In Praise of Hands", and also at the Mariposa Folk Festival in the week in between. I was making Psalteries as there were too many guitar makers applying for the gig. This "customer" actually won a raffle I had for one of the pieces I made during the exhibition. At the time, my "Logo" was a "W". This was my creative rendition of a "Boar's Head Psaltery":

I had a 1995 guitar come into the shop this week for a light fret mill and a bridge shave. It is the first guitar I made with carbon reinforcement in the neck a no truss rod. In a few more years it will need frets and I will be able to change the relief, but this weeks work will get it through. I did a serious reconstruction on it a few years ago after it was rescued from a garage in Florida.
This is the only guitar I have made from Goncalo Alves. It has been abused but it still plays a sounds quite decently. Yep, that’s a screw hole. |

That guitar may be even more beautiful for everything it has gone through. There’s a lot of humanity written in that top.

This all-myrtle project is one the most fascinating builds going on anywhere.

Having played some of Bruce’s other hardwood guitars (Magnolia/Catalpa and the Claro Walnut guitars) that he has made, I know this guitar will be a winner...

I won't likely make a page for CN#4 until it's playable (born!), so I put up some pictures directly in the meantime:

I absolutely love Myrtle! How thick is that top Bruce? I would imagine it's a bit thinner than a spruce top would be.
