Yes, I remember reading that a couple of years ago. This year has showed something very different with lots of beginners picking up the guitar (acoustic and electric). Hopefully many of those players will stick around.

Electric guitar is not dead.

Old news and like Mark Twain said :::::::

This is much more current although a bit hyped, as electric sales had actually started some increase in the months prior to Jan. in the good ol' pre corona days GOPCD

That article is from June 22, 2017. Things have changed a lot over the passed 9 or so months. Guitars are selling like discount hot cakes!

However, I'll bet in about a year when everyone is being called back to the office, there's going to be a lot of used guitars for sale at very good prices/

Like Guitar Center, something's always about to die but never quite does. Everything will eventually, so the naysayers will get the last laugh... if they're still alive.

The specter of Dick Rowe hovers over this thread.

Lol... how true. "Guitar groups are on their way out, Mr Epstein." Yeah, that was a good move.

As Mark Twain once said, "The rumors of my death are greatly exaggerated."

Henry Juszkiewicz nearly killed Gibson, and the current management has made their share of mistakes as well, such as suing some of their competitors for dubious copyright infringement claims.

I suspect the size of the electric guitar market will ebb and flow, manufacturers will come and go, and the pressure on U.S. makers from Asian companies will continue.

None of us can predict the future. Remember that an executive at Decca Records declined to sign the Beatles because he was convinced that guitars were a passing fad.

Although to be fair a company has to have a track record of protecting their trademarks/copyrights. It's common strategy to pick on a little guy so you can get it on the record, perhaps even win, at minimum cost and risk. Distasteful, maybe, but hardly a unique strategy.

Agreed, but waiting twenty or thirty years to sue because of a similar, but not identical, headstock shape kind of pushes it, IMO.

Dang... guess I better sell mine. At 66 I care so much about being on the cutting edge of what's hip.
