There's some French and Hessian possibilities too, but nothing definite. When I was in Europe poking around I found Ireland spoke to me in a way few other places have, so I have a hunch along with some rather flimsy evidence a significant portion of my ancestors lived on the Emerald Isle a long time before our teenage Patrick stepped aboard a sailing vessel with his brother bound for the New World. My best guess has the most likely homestead area being a bit further south than Donegal near the west coast.

The X20 I got in 2013 spoke to me also. I tried other guitars after I got Remmy (for Red Emerald and yes I name things), but I keep coming back to her. My Kestrel is similar in feeling, but she is a completely different guitar that I still can't seem to put down these last few honeymoon months because of her velvety smooth tones. Haven't settled on a name quite yet either. Still I am ready to work with the Emerald team on the next dream guitar were I to win this wonderful opportunity. I have several dream guitars from Emerald I still ponder, so there is plenty of dreams to work on should I have the chance.

Good luck to everyone on this competition. Thank you to everyone at Emerald for giving us all a chance to dream and design.

Best of luck, cousin Tom (very very far out cousin)!
Maybe the irish in your blood will bring you luck on this occasion. ☘️☘️

I think I entered the contest. I was late but let Simon know that I was willing to take possession of a custom guitar at any time. I suggested an f-hole, nylon string, electric, thin-bodied electric, with a super thin face and sound posts like found in violins. Alistair likes a challenge so I'm sure I'll win.

Noooo, we might as well give up now.

I was just teasing about the inlays but I guess the joke is on me now. Anyway, good to know that this is becoming a regular option.

Thank you Cousin Simon. Remember your family even if they do live on the other side of the pond. Say hi to the rest of my cousins for me. I'll be back again to visit someday. Sooner than later I hope.

After I win, it might be a good idea to pass out mugs to all the losers, just to soften the blow.

My understanding is you have to buy the (expensive) mug to get the free guitar, and under no circumstaces are they given away :/

Thanks to Alistair and the Emerald crew for offering this opportunity. Great way to get people talking about Emerald and causing folks to dream about their idea of a custom.

Congrats to the winner (I watched Alistair's video on FB)! What a fun opportunity, when things settle down a bit. I'll be looking forward to hearing what the winner's "dream guitar built" turns out to be.

Thanks again, Alistair and crew, for offering this contest.

Congratulations - and happy birthday! What a wonderful gift, indeed.

What guitar are you going to treat yourself to?

Thanks! I was only half kidding in my earlier post in this thread. I do want that heelless X20 Nylon. With slotted headstock, gold hardware and finished in amber on silver weave.

Lovely. Maybe a little inlay, too?

Sure, why not? As long as the $4000 limit allows it.
