Default Counterfeit Taylor K24ce

Just reported a counterfeit Taylor K24ce listed on eBay in the UK.

I won’t link the listing as hopefully it will be taken down soon!

I’m no Taylor expert but the things that were obviously suspicious included:

Logo on headstock had a closed ‘a’
Non-branded tuners
Variable quality on neck inlays
Pre-amp knobs were in expression system location but were a totally different, much larger, type
Neck to headstock transition just looked wrong
Appeared to be significant glue line showing along back brace above label
Label: colours didn’t seem correct; serial number indicated Made in Mexico,; and ROBERTTAYLOR as one word (no gap) beneath the signature.

Obviously we can’t know whether the seller was being deliberately dishonest or had perhaps previously bought it in good faith themselves, but the fact that they had posted quality detailed photos was their undoing.

Bidding was already up to £400 from 18 bids.

Be careful out there!

eBay have done nothing yet! Bidding is now at £874

Here’s the link: https://rover.ebay.com/rover/0/0/0?m...2F333014375250

What go you think - real or fake?

I'm no expert - not even close - but after comparing the pics to the K24 on the Sweetwater website, I'm voting for fake.

I recently found out about these because a video popped up on my YouTube feed for some reason.

They definitely exist, and are known as Chaylors (Chinese Taylors). Why someone would want one is beyond me.

I’m not a believer in counterfeit guitars BUT you can buy an all solid wood K24 Chaylor for about $600. It’s not a Taylor by any measurement but it’s a lot of guitar for the money and you can order them without any manufacturers markings. Their marketing the counterfeit Taylor’s, Martins and Gibson’s because of the name demand so they are easier to sell.

I guess. What type of wood is it though? You have a link, would love to see it at least.

I don't think I've seen a worse attempt at a fake in my life.

Wow, you're right. I just looked at it. The electronics knobs are hilarious and the label is even better:

Printed by an inkjet printer, cut with a pair of scissors haphazardly, and glued in with Elmers. The sides are already peeling up. They couldn't even put the effort in to get his named correctly: "ROBERTAYLOR"

Look at the huge glob of finish that cured on the bottom left right outside the rosette

Rosewood bridge and board are a dead giveaway.

The last time I saw knobs like that was on a CB radio from the 70’s

It's not a fake Taylor, it's a genuine Roberta Ylor.
