Taylor pickguard covers the sunburst finish
Hello everyone!
As per previous post, I am browsing for a Taylor 362ce (Saturday I am going to try it - finger crossed!) and I noticed that the 3xx series have always a black pickguard and the 5xx have not. IMO, without looks better.. I have asked myself: why on "cheap" models is present and on "more expensive" not? How would it look a 32x/36x without pickguard? - I tried to put side by side the 362/562, even if the color is not the same (why?) [I hope that the link to the image sharing website works...] Which are your opinions? thanks, have a nice day! EDIT: I do not see the image working.. I put the link here - https://ibb.co/VDXzZ6R |

The first thing that jumps out at me is that the 5 series is gloss and the # is satin. I'm sure that has something to do with it. Also, there is going to be some variation even between guitars in the same series. My daughter has a 362, the shading is definitely different than other 5 series guitars, but unless I put them in a room together and compare, the differences don't bother me. She and I like how they all look, so for us, this is just a different flavor. I am not sure how hard it is to remove a pickguard, and believe the newer the guitar is, the less you'll see a "tan line". Others with more knowledge may provide a better answer.

Saturday I am going to see finally a 362, can't wait. I prefer from pictures the 562 for 'color of the sunburst' and 'sunburst applied to back and sides'. But I do prefer the satin finish. So it is a tough one. I would order it without pick guard - or with a transparent one.. But that would increase the costs (no discount on special orders) How do and your daughter find the 362? I found not so much love around.. |

Covering the sunburst or a beautiful wood like koa, is one of the reasons that I prefer not to have pick guards. But I don't NEED them for my playing style and technique.

The answer is always clear guard.

Also if the price is 400/500$ higher for a custom build without or with clear guard?

I agree, but as said the price is higher... And takes 2-3 months of waiting.

You can easily take it to a Luthier to get one removed and a clear one on for minimal cost |

The 3xx series didn't always universally have black pickguards.
Maybe the mahogany versions but not the whole series.

You are right, I am a bit scared of the tan lines.. However, if present.. guard can be reinstalled!

From a fast view from their website, 3xx series have black guard.. But I think is something new, I tried a 314 with tortoise guard (if I do remember right)

I've been quite happy with my static-cling clear pick guard I got from Taylor.
Here's some help with the pics: |
