In response to your direct question: the Elixirs are not stiffer than non-coated strings.
They are sicker than non-coated strings, but in my experience not as slippery as D’Addario coated strings. The slipperiness means you might have to be more accurate in how you bend the wound strings, but stiffer? No, not at all. Trent
