Hey Dennis! Don't know how I missed this thread until tonight.

I remember you talking about this build at the last McJam. You were quite excited then... I can only imagine how thrilled you are now that it's started.

That Blackwood is really special!!

How soon do you think this one might make an appearance at a McJam so I can see it in person?

Thanks for checking in Rodger. Indeed, I am really excited. Dealing with Jason is wonderful and I am truly blessed to have him building me an MDW. If everything goes according to plan, I will have it with me at the McJam this summer.

I want to found a Dyed Burl Fan Club. Who’s in?
I have a build with Jason coming towards the end of the year, and after seeing these inlays I believe he outdid himself once more!
Just trying to understand how to fit dyed burl together with Madagascar rosewood now.
Your guitar is going to be awesome! Congrats!

Jason's dyed burl is spectacular. Would have to see some from others before I join a fan club. I'm already in the Kostal fan club.

If I’m not mistaken, that’s a very Kostal thing. I don’t think anything similar has showed up on a guitar so far...

I am still secretly holding out hope for B.I.G., maybe if it is not done, Jason can at least bring the box for us to see at least???

I'm thinking the finish alone consumes a lot of time. Jason and I haven't discussed it but I think B.I.G might be in the too-hard-box for this one.

More progress ...

Preparing to join the German Spruce. Looks to be a schweeet top! Knowing Jason, I'm sure it taps really well.

Preparing the rosette position. Lots of medullary gonna pop on this one under finish.

The channel for the rosette is routed.

Two types of wood (Maple burl and Birch burl) dyed for the rosette. I know it is different than the finished rosette I showed you but I think it looks awesome.

The glued top with final rosette. Have you ever heard me say I like green. Wow!

On to bracing the top!

Beautiful Dennis, truly outstanding. Well even if B.I.G. is not possible, I will make sure you and Jason have a nice private spot set aside for some manly activity like at the brook in Woodstock! Maybe Kathy will join you, she has been known to in the past hahaha!

Looks awesome, Dennis--saw this rosette on FB and wondered if it was yours!

Just keeps getting and better!

That could be my favourite Kostal rosette, right there.

When I had mine, I asked Jason to consider green but he didn’t like how it came out. Several years of practice later, he’s clearly cracked it - magnificent!

Cheers,
Steve

I'm inclined to agree. The colors are really special. The back is deep and rich, and I love how the rosette makes the whole thing seem more alive. Beautiful!
