Default California Dreaming

Finally had a spring weekend here in the SF Bay Area, and it inspired me to record California Dreaming. I would have sang, but I couldn't get Michelle Phillips to sing harmony.....

Whoa! Very well done! I enjoyed that! Back from 10th grade in high school for me, about 1963 I think. Cool!

Default Beautiful!

Hey 247Hoopsfan,
Nicely done. Is that your own arrangement? Any chance of a pointer to the tabs?

Yes, it's my own arrangement, pretty close to the song with some embellishments on my part. I do some hybrid picking with strumming and throw in some lead lines based around the chord structure. Sorry I don't do tabs, but the song starts in Am and the other chords are G, Fmaj7 and E7sus4.
If I have time maybe I'll video record it and put it up on Youtube.
Thanks for the comment.

Tha is for sharing this, I’ve been trying to think of some great tunes to learn that I otherwise wouldn’t try to sing and this one’s at the top now! Just not the same singing this one if you don’t have the harmony behind ya.

HR,
My guitar is a Larrivee D10 Brazilian, it's a dread size. It is my favorite guitar, just edging out my Goodall. Great balance, and the reverb-like tone Brazilian is known for. I just have a basic recording setup. I use a Snowball mic plugged into my MacBook in GarageBand. I use the Natural Strum setting with Natural Stereo. That's pretty much it. I love the tone of the Larrivee so I don't mess it up with any effects. It's a pretty basic and inexpensive set up ($50) but simple and I find it captures the sound of my guitars quite well.
Thanks for listening.

Yeah, it's a great instrumental tune. I actually recorded a vocal track too, but as you say, without the harmony it just doesn't sound right. The Mamas and the Papas are kind of under appreciated in my opinion. They had such great harmony. If I ever get to Virginia I'm gonna find where you're playing and enjoy your great guitar work.

Thank you for sharing this and responding . I've a Madagascar rosewood
dread Washburn D46SCE - yes the rosie's do have that bell like ringing reverb .

I'm about to augment my HP Touchsmart 610 computer with a Mac laptop .
Even though the Windows 10 has been working fairly well it still occasionally
locks up . It was my fav till I purchased a single cutaway 000 Cocobolo
( a sub-species of the rosewoods ) nylon - Wow - it's got that bell-like ringing reverb
thing too . it's really super easy playing , it's spoiling me heh heh heh
