Default Martin sighting on American Idol

It looks like the all ovangkol, could just be an Amber top though.

Lol, occasionally. If it wasn't for Katie Perry I'd be reading a book.

My wife watches the show so Ive seen a fair share of episodes.
90% of the guitars played on there (and there's actually quite a few) are Taylors.
There's a few cheapo's thrown in and the occasional Gibson. Ive rarely seen a Martin.

There were two more on the show right afterwards.

I also noticed the switch to Martins with the exception of one Tak. Guess there is now a product placement deal with Martin.

Have you seen any of the episodes this season? Besides guitar playing, singing also takes a lot of skill. The level of skill, in terms of matching appropriate rhythm strumming together with singing at the same time, that you see on American Idol is the cream of the crop in the U.S. and far stronger than what you usually see at open mics nights, bluegrass jams, etc.

They like the Taylor Jingly sound. Taylor makes some great guitars I'm just not a fan. You did ask for my opinion right? LOL

Last year’s winner, Maddie Poppe, played a Flammang, which I thought was pretty cool:

What I thought was interesting was that a lot of the practice sessions (in prep for that night's show) were played on one instrument, and performed on others. There were a couple of Taylors in the practice sessions, including what looked like a Grand Pacific, and a Takamine, but I at the judged performances they had changed to a couple of Martins and a Breedlove. I think I would want to play the guitar I practiced on.

As far as the quality of talent, this is a very strong year. I haven't watched much in recent seasons, but there's something about a few of the performers in this season, at least three or four or them are really fantastic.

Havn't watched it in years. The made up drama of "reality" TV bores me pretty quickly.

The show is dominated by Taylors, but Alejandro was playing a D-18 last night, and Laci Kaye Booth has been playing her Martin GPC-15ME Streetmaster (I believe it is the Streetmaster).

Alejando is interesting because he usually plays a Taylor Dread, but he has also whipped out a new Grand Pacific, and the D-18. I wonder if the Grand Pacific was a prop for the night?

This is my first year watching every episode in over 10 years. My wife and I used to watch, but got bored. This year, my daughter is CRAZY about the show, and American Idol has got my daughter so obsessed with learning guitar and singing. That is worth every bit of it to me, and more!!!

I'm not watching this year but there is definite product placement going on. People with show up for the auditions with Yamahas and the like and by the end they're armed with Taylor 814s

It's definitely happening, but my 3 favorites this year are Laci, Wade, and Alejandro. They've all stuck with their main axes since the beginning which is pretty cool. Alejandro did pull out a Grand Pacific for a couple episodes, but he played a D-28 last night which was pretty sweet!

Taylor has accomplished their mission. My daughter wanted a GS Mini after seeing so many Taylor's on American Idol, and last night she said, "Dad, I think I'm a Taylor girl!"

Which places would you say have singers more talented than the ones you see on American Idol?
