LR Baggs Session DI
I am a huge fan of LR Baggs products and love the venue DI for live sound.
It looks like they are releasing a new product, the Session DI, aimed at replicating studio quality sound: http://www.lrbaggs.com/session-acoustic-di https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=P7ufbxx_7-o My guess is they will officially release it at 2015 NAMM.

That looks very interesting. I wish the DI out was on the back and not the top. That's how it is on the Para I have and wish it was on the back.

I agree....interesting.
Curious when they hit the streets and how much.

I think as NAMM approaches, the details will emerge. I love my Venue, looking forward to hearing more about this.

Lr Baggs actually released a teaser for this new product as far back as early December. I actually started a thread on it at that time. The Session DI was officially released to the world just over a week ago. Generally when a company shows a product a week before NAMM then it will be released at NAMM. Here is the original thread:

I'm very interested. When I had my Aura Spectrum, I loved having the notch filters and one-knob compressor in one box. I also loved adding a tiny bit of saturation with the Cool Tube preamp in a Takamine I used to have. Looking forward to hearing more about this.

I am very excited to hear how it sounds as well. I just don't like how the XLR input is on the top of the unit. I think this is a terrible design and it's an accident waiting to happen.
My other small complaint is that if this is a success, I can see Lr Baggs releasing an updated version with all of the features of their Venue DI. The Session DI is missing some things that I would like in a live setting. |

It sounds to me like the Session is adding a few things that are missing from the Venue to compete with the Fishman DI with compression...either or. in the Sessions video they said the magic words..."multi-band compressor" couple that with saturation and they might have a big winner here, I've had good results from using multi-band compressors..,,,depends how much they want for it, shouldn't be too much...after all it's only a two featured stomp box...we'll see how it sounds....sounds interesting though....I've already added a compressor/sustainer and a tube screamer to my effects chain...so I may not need it.

The interesting thing about this as well is that it is aimed at live performance and getting studio quality tone in a live venue.
Just wondering what kind of pickup systems they were targeting or whether this multiband compression and saturation will work well with mags/undersaddles/soundboard transducers... davidc |

It appears to have a compressor knob on the unit so I would assume so.

yes they talk about a multi-band compressor in the video...my experience with them is that they really enhance the sound big time...plus saturation .. ?? very intriguing !! I can't wait to hear a more comprehensive audio demo....

Yes but of course multi-band compression shouldn't be confused with traditional compression one might find on other guitar pre-amps.

Very true, that's a good point. To simplify things though, there will be compression within this pedal. I am definitely interested to hear it. Again, I feel as though demoes will not really showcase how much of a difference this pedal can make. I bet in a live setting a player will really notice the benefits of using the Session.
