Default Let It Be Me (Everly Brothers) by Gilbert Bécaud

I recorded this video to mark my wife and my 50th wedding anniversary coming up this coming weekend.

This song was a hit in France in 1955 and was then reinterpreted for English by the composer of the original composition, Gilbert Bécaud. The Everly Brothers released this song in North America in 1960.

My Australian friend, Mach Buffet, suggested this song to me recently as an idea to musically celebrate our upcoming 50th anniversary. The background photo of an Australian sunset also came from Mach Buffet. The guitar is my Collings model OM1A dread-depth body.

This song looks harder on the video than it actually is, only because I spent some time looking for ways to add harmonic interest from the guitar. The verse chord progression is G D, Em Bm, C G, C G. The bridge progression is C Bm, C G, Am Bm, C Am, B7, D. The Intro I used involves slight variations of the chords from the verse. The vocal and guitar were done live and then I added the vocal harmony afterwards. I left the first verse with no harmony because my wife liked the song with just a single voice and guitar. I added the harmony to the other verses because I can't help thinking of this song without the Everly Brothers' harmony. The song is pitched in the same place (G, no capo) as the Everly Brothers used.

Thank you for watching!

- Glenn

OOHHHH MYYYY !!!

You’ve done it again Glenn.
Absolutely beautiful.

Creatively produced, well played, a pleasure to watch and listen.
And having been to your home and met your wife, I can only envy the life you two share.

Thankyou for posting this Glenn.

Thank you Woodbox!

I'm so glad you like how this came out!

When Mach Buffet suggested this, I thought, "Well, I don't know... This song might be a little too sappy for me..." But when I listened to the Everly Brothers I thought, gee, that is a really pretty melody.

So then I messed around with the chords and pretty soon I found myself really liking this song! So I'm glad you like it, as well!

And yes, I am extremely fortunate in so many ways.

Thanks, Glenn

Thank you Angie!

I should have been so lucky to be part of the Everly Brothers! Of course, maybe when they weren't getting along I'd have been out of a job!

Thanks for your kind words and for the congratulations!

I hope all is well for you Angie!

Take care,
Glenn

Hi Started!

Thank you! I used the same harmony that Phil Everly sang against Don's lead, so while I don't have quite the sweetness in my voice that Phil Everly had, especially in his younger years, as long as I was mostly on pitch, it should sound a bit like the Everly Brothers. I have always loved their harmony and the sound of their voices.

Thanks too for the congrats on our 50th anniversary!

I hope all is well for you and your family!

- Glenn

Wow, I was curious if maybe Ray LaMontagne’s song “Let it be me” was actually a cover of this (it wasn’t) but wow, what an awesome song...now to look up the original!..and congrats on you all’s anniversary!!! Be well, buddy.

Hi Glenn! This one was as special as it was supposed to be, Glenn! Of course this song is well known to our generation and brings forth...what.....a thousand memories?
But the only memory/celebration at hand is your 50th and for this you did this song great justice. Wishing you a happy 50th....to you and your wife!

Thank you Fred!

I appreciate your kind words and your good wishes on our anniversary!

I do think you have to be closer to our age to really appreciate this song. I was 12 years in 1960; I know you were just a little older. So for us, this song really made an impression. And I know that Everly Brothers harmony made a huge impression on me -- it still does to this day.

I'm very pleased that you thought this came out well, Fred! Thanks for taking the time to listen and comment. I hope all is well for you and your wife and family!

Be well!
- Glenn

Hi Glenn,
congratulations to your 50th wedding anniversary....

and also congratulations to that´s a great video. Sometimes a guitar and 2 vocals are enough for a great song... But I also like the making of the video,
the right light in the room and the moves of the view of the camera - you did a great job there...

Greetings from Germany
Gerhard
