Default How is this sound made? Guitar with 4 strings

I've got a gig lined up for a kids show, and I'm going to do some songs by Caspar Babypants. He's pretty popular, has millions of hits on youtube.

I really like the sound he gets from his guitar and rig. I looked at the video a couple of times before I realized that his guitar is strung with only 4 strings. I think he's doing something with effects or maybe its just the bass response of an arch-top? Very effective accompaniment for his songs.

I'd love to add this sound to my repertoire. Any ideas? Bonus points if you can tell me how the guitar is tuned

Thanks. ---geoff

I think it's only 3 strings, tuned to a power chord, like DAD, or maybe a half step or so lower.

That's what he played in the Presidents of the United States of America back in the 90's at least. My high school garage band played "Lump," but we just turned a six string to drop C# I think...been a long time
