I am so glad to see this thread. Maple needs to get out from under the bad vibes it got when it was being used to make cheap factory guitars in the mid 90's by a particular company which shall go unnamed.

I have a nice bunch of guitars and this Maple from Steve Kinnaird and Ryan Middlebrook is simply one of the best of the best. Great bass, beautiful trebles and a wonderful balance across the strings. None of the negatives people like to randomly throw around about Maple tone.

Oh, and it is beautiful:

Simple hard rock maple for my fingerboard please. That's my preference but seldom offered on acoustic guitars. Smoother than rosewood and much ebony and, iiuc, easily sourced.

Fancy maple otoh isn't quite my thing. I think my mahogany Furch is my best looking guitar and I just have to put up with the astonishing silking and bling on my Yamahas.

My maple-bodied Waterloo WL-12 sounds magnificent, and is probably my favorite guitar, but liking it doesn't proclaim my membership in a tribe. I'm no more a "maple guy" than I am a "stainless steel guy" just because my resonator is made out of it.

Personally, I'd rather he didn't stain it. I see no reason for disguising maple! It's beautiful in it's natural color.

I like the lighter Maple finishes as well. I'm not a fan of staining Maple so dark you can't tell what it is. There's a simplicity in Maple's natural appearance that is striking. HOWEVER, that figured guitar Tom posted is righteous.

I have a Larrivée custom shop Sitka/Flamed Maple L bodied that is one of the best guitars I've ever played, I'll never part with it.

Wish I could post a few photos, but I don't care to have to jump thru hoops to do so.

Smile Thanks Tom

I was just ogling that Indian Hill Maple and thinking it should be up for everyone here to enjoy!

I do NOT mind the stain, but I also like natural!

Cheers

I'm new here so I don't have a long history of uploading photos on AGF, or the perceived frustration others seem to complain about, it takes me about 20 seconds to upload photos to a post via Imgur. I just don't see the issue or complication although it has been repeated frequently.

Schoolie

Is that an F-50 ? I had one of those I wish I had kept

Indeed I think a maple would probably be the only additional guitar is would consider purchasing at this point ..

I'm a big fan of Maple, whether Curly, Quilted, or Bird's Eye. But I do agree with others who have said it's the builder more than the woods.
