Default Plugging the Guitar into the Computer.

I have heard plugging your guitar into your computer is as simple as finding an adaptor for the Mic port on the sound card. Sounds great to me, only problem is there is no radio shack around. Any idea what this adaptor is called or where I can get one online?

Thanks in advance.

It is simply a 1/4" to 1/8" adapter. I use it all the time for recording into audacity. You can probably find one at just about any store that carries little electronic items or online.

Some sound cards have both a mic (mono) input and a 'music' (stereo) input, all 1/8". You may need a low end mixer or preamp to boost the signal up.
There also are a bunch of mid-range ones like the EMU which have 1/4" mono L/R, and midi in/out.

Hopefully you have a "Line In" on your sound card in addition to "Mic" -Use the line in.
....and, you dont need an amp to do this -although an amp will give you the ability to change tone.
-Remember, the mic input is typically mono (One ring at the end of the 1/8inch plug)
And the "Line in" will be stereo, so you need a stereo 1/8 plug -(2 rings at the end)
