I'm no great country afficionado, but these three came to mind pretty easily:

Jolene - Dolly Parton
Guitars, Cadillacs - Dwight Yoakam
Crazy - Willie Nelson

Mr Jelly mentioned a couple of tunes from this one, Wanted: The Outlaws. This was the first country record in a lot of folks collections, including mine. A 1976 compiliation with Waylon, Willie, Jessie Colter, Tompall Glaser. My very favorites are in bold

Side one
"My Heroes Have Always Been Cowboys" (Sharon Rice) – 2:48
Performed by Jennings
"Honky Tonk Heroes" (Billy Joe Shaver) – 3:27
Performed by Jennings
"I'm Looking For Blue Eyes" (Jessi Colter) – 2:15
Performed by Colter
"You Mean to Say" (Colter) – 2:28
Performed by Colter
"Suspicious Minds" (Mark James) – 3:55
Performed by Jennings and Colter
Side two
"Good Hearted Woman" (Waylon Jennings, Willie Nelson) – 2:56
Performed by Jennings and Nelson
"Heaven or Hell" (Nelson) – 1:37
Performed by Jennings and Nelson
"Me and Paul" (Nelson) – 3:45
Performed by Nelson
"Yesterday's Wine" (Nelson) – 2:58
Performed by Nelson
"T for Texas" (Jimmie Rodgers) – 4:12
Performed by Tompall Glaser
"Put Another Log on the Fire (Male Chauvinist National Anthem)" (Shel Silverstein) – 2:16
Performed by Glaser

I'm a prog rock fan but I really like this song by Aussie country singer Felicity Urquhart - co written with Randy Scruggs.

Hope you all like it too.

Thanks,

Hi Richard, You’re welcome! This song by Collin Raye came to my mind while I was reading the thread, “the longest time a guitar has been with you”...when a poster mentioned that his guitar was given to him by his Grandma...and used to belong to his Grandpa. I had forgotten about this song too.

You can go to the website:

tabs.ultimate-guitar.com

on your laptop/computer (not on your I-phone) where it will have this song and thousand others, with the lyrics and guitar chords in them. Best part is that you’re able to change to a higher or lower key to suit your vocal range.

I’ve been playing and singing the above 2 songs that I’ve posted for a couple of days using that website. Try it, you may like it.

Way too hard to narrow this one down. Pretty much anything by Dwight Yoakam, George Straight, Willie, Alan Jackson, Either Hank Williams.....

I love this live studio version of "Long White Line" by Sturgill.

I like some of the more recent country stuff, but I'll not mention it here for the risk of flogging.

John Denver’s “Back Home Again”. And check out the gorgeous Taylor Koa guitar he was using back then!

2 or 3? Man...

Gotta go w/"Wildwood Flower"...the one that started it all for me...

Then a Cash tune. Thought about "Folsom Prison Blues" (JC was gangster BEFORE Rap), but going w/"Give My Love to Rose"...such a sorrowful love song...

Any third pick would be doing a disservice to a million others, but "Blue Eyes Crying in the Rain" should be mentioned...

I'll go with:

"Long Black Veil," the Rosanne Cash version, and

"Amarillo By Morning" by George Strait, and

"Someday Soon" by Suzy Boggus.

Thanks for the suggestion, Cool555. I went to the site, pulled it down, and I'm working on it.
