Back in '75 after I'd just had a new engine fitted into my Ford Cortina as I was cummuting from West London to north east Hertfordshire daily, I heard an engine over revving and then squealing tyres to discover the next morning that it was my car that had been stolen.
The police found it about two weeks later abut 50 miles west of London. I took the train there to find that it had been half stripped and actually drove it back with the drivers seat unbolted and no rear view mirror (plus a whole load iof other stuff.
I don't believe that the police bother to search for stolen cars any more. If it flashes up as stolen in a patrol car's ANPR system, they might chase it, might not.

Default They Found My Car!

The police called today, they found my car. Bad news is, its 120 miles away. Good news is they think they have the guy.

The local investigators are going up there tomorrow to check the car for fingerprints, DNA, etc.

The ignition lock and switch have been ripped out of it. It doesn't appear to have been crashed.

I cancelled the registration this morning before I got the call. I can't see it being worth the time, money and effort to bring it home and fix it. I think I will just give the title to whoever wants to haul it off and scrap it. Time to move on. I'll post details as the story unfolds.

I bought a new car today. 2016 Buick LaCrosse. It's nice.

Great to hear...would be interesting to see what the motive was...ease of theft....parts....just because?? Few years ago a dentist by me had his BMW M3 stolen...got it back the same day...He asked "why did they steal it then"? I asked "Why did you buy it"?? he said "Because its fun to drive"..." they'res your answer".....just because.

It was stolen to go for a joy ride or to be used in committing a crime. In many jurisdictions petty theft is considered a misdemeanor that is punishable with minor penalties. Is theft under $5,000.00 considered a misdemeanor where you live?

It's $2,500 in Wisconsin. They have a suspect and are expending considerable effort to make a case. I should know more later today, it's getting pretty interesting. That's all I can say at this moment. More to come...

Wait until you hear the rest of the story, it should be good for a few laughs. I'm withholding a lot of information because it's the smart thing to do.

I have a meeting with the Investigator Friday afternoon. Should be able to share more then. For now, I'll just say the car was most likely involved in a crime and the guy wasn't even smart enough to remove my license plates.

Will this be one of those "you can't make this stuff up" stories?
