Default Emerald X20-12 On Order....

In May I purchased a used Amicus that popped up in the AGF Classified section and really enjoyed it. However, the down side was that I couldn't do barre chords and playing it for long was really uncomfortable for my arthritic fingers. I sold it recently, but it reminded me how much I missed having a 12-string guitar. Therefore as my Xmas present to myself I ordered an X20-12 from Emerald. Nothing fancy but I opted for a Satin black finish with no electronics. All else will be stock. December won't come soon enough....

You should be super happy with it. I've owned about all of the Carbon 12's that have been made and the Emerald is my favorite in play-ability and and a slight nod in tone as well.

I thought I'd gotten an artificially low price for the satin finish uncharge on my X30 at $200. I thought it would be higher this time and it was at $400.

Yes. I no longer buy green bananas nor plan farther ahead than four months...

Thanks - that does seems quite reasonable, given that it’s not part of the standard finishing protocol.

Congrats Joel! Is this going to be another Emerald woody veneer for you?

No, plain black weave. I went with the Black Limba for my X30 because it was a special occasion (70th birthday)...

Congrats! Your X30 looked really sharp with the satin finish. Can't wait to see this one. Do you know what type of tuners they use on the new 12-string x20?

Thanks JR. I really like the satin finish. They use the Gotoh 510s...

Congrats!!! Does the X20-12 come with a pin less bridge? Just wondering... that would be very helpful with all those strings. I ask for a pin less bridge on my Amicus and was told it was not available.

X20-12 comes with a pin bridge as standard. Not sure I've ever seen one with a pinless - and the answer you got for the Amicus would suggest that it's probably not available.

Pinless is appealing - but I have to say that the pin bridge on my X20s is the easiest I've ever had to change strings on. That's because I can stick my hand through the offset soundhole and be sure the string is seated properly for every string as I install them. No more popping pins

None of the new changes for the X20 apply to the X20-12, and I'm real ok with that....

Emerald once offered on their website a Chimaera 6/12 with 2 pinless bridges.
Wanting a Chimaera, I considered it and passed for exactly the (then) unknown factor of the pinless bridge.

Similarly, when taking a shot at ordering one and thinking about a Bari/12 Chimaera, I passed based on the then unknown and now apparently forgotten CF tuners.

I’m very, very happy with the Emeralds I have managed to acquire, which feature standard bridges with pins and Gotoh 510’s throughout.

Fwiw, I’ve also enjoyed the pinless bridges on Lowdens past, and McIlroys present. I sure do hope Emerald gets it right on the new pinless models.

Lastly, I don’t particularly care for the new “pointless” bridge. To me, the original bridge went well with the whole suite of what makes an Emerald an Emerald aesthetically.

Now back to sleep for another 6 months......
