Gouge in neck after fretboard removal, any fix
Hi all, first time poster here, like the title says, pulled the fretboard off my old Yamaha and left some pretty bad gouges in the neck. What can I fill with to re-attach. Was thinking epoxy, no chance of ever getting it off again if things go bad tho. Any ideas would be appreciated

Photos are necessary to provide any meaningful input.

What color is the back of the neck? I assume it is stained.
Is there binding on the sides of the fingerboard? If so, what color? The gouges are cosmetic, rather than structural. The fix will also be cosmetic. In general, darker is easier to hide than lighter in color. Hence, the questions about with what colors you are working. |

Charles let me get some more pics up. The gouge is deeper than it looks in the photos and am concerned I wont get a good bond there. Old Yamaha FG 300 that someone stuck their size 10 through.

You're picking the wrong imgur links. You need to copy the "BBCode (message boards & forums)" link after sizing below (think medium thumbnail).

As long as people can see the images, they're fine: people can.
As an aside, why did you remove the fingerboard? |

I would graft mahogany in the low areas.

Top was destroyed so decided to replace it. Heard many stories of Asian mystery glue and was somewhat reluctant to pull neck. This being the first time I had ever tried anything like this. I said what the heck only got a hundred dollars in it, so proceeded. got the bridge off, wasn't so bad, started on the finger board extension, was going so good I thought "man if I can get the fretboard off I wont have to pull the neck". So here I am. |

It is worse than I interpreted from the earlier photos.
As John said, graft in mahogany to the area. |
