Default Selling acoustics via . . . amplified sound

It's commonplace to see acoustic guitars ads that include sound or video clips. And, for the most part, these are very helpful.

However, some ads include clips that are generated through nice condenser mikes and recording gear. Probably some choice EQ and reverb added.

The resulting tone can be great, but it's not entirely the tone of the guitar. It's an enhanced tone. Therefore, not exactly what you'd be paying for.

Recording acoustic tone realistically can be pretty challenging, so not sure what the best approach would be.

That is a very fair observation and caution. Not entirely unlike a post-processed photograph. I, too, have watched and enjoyed hundreds of guitar-centric videos. To their credit, many posters specify the absence of any EQ or other enhancements in the recording or presentation. Of course, there are reverb and other acoustic qualities of the recording space which can have as much of an impact on the perceived sound of an instrument as the digital manipulation. As can variations among guitar siblings and their players. If you listen to enough recordings of he same guitar, you should get a sense of its voice. Though, truly, the best that can be said is that a particular recording demonstrates how one specific guitar sounds on a specific day, in the recorded setting and in the hands of the player. Enjoyable, to be sure. But not necessarily Truth.

Hey Moderator. This should not have been moved. This is a general guitar issue, not a narrowly electric one. Please move back.
