Saw this popup in a banner ad for Elderly Music (been shopping there lately).

Unfortunately they were sold out, so I searched on Reverb.com and there one was. I'm sure they meant to copy the look of the old Buck Owens acoustic. With the exception of the back of the neck which I believe was only white, and I'm sure this one is much more playable than those old ones.

Had been gasing for a Harmony, but the amount of money for a good one I think I'll go for this one instead.

Don't know about this one, but I just bought my second Recording King, an
R0 T-16. I think that RK's are underrated, they play well above their price ranges.

I bought the Century 33 limited edition model. I suspect this is the same guitar build-wise, just different appointments and finish. It sounds really nice and is great for fingerpicking or strumming. Comfortable neck and setup was perfect right out of the box.

I think that looks fantastic. I'd love to try one.

I wish there were some sound or YouTube clips available. Curious to see what they sound like.

Like I said earlier in this thread, I believe this to be essentially the same guitar, cosmetics aside. Also, recently there was a video on RK's Facebook page if the Bakersfield. Not studio produced but it gives an idea of the sound.

I just got a Recoding King RNJ 25. Like a Nick Lucas. Smallish body, 4.5" deep. Lucas inlays. Solid maple back and sides, sitka spruce top. Guardian hard case, Baggs M1 pickup mint. Used for $650! Best bang for the $ ever in 55 years of playing. I'm a snob used to 2/3K guitars so I am thrilled with this.

Growing up in Bakersfield and still residing there, I have seen and played a few of the originals.

A unique looking instrument...

Nice guitars but I don't think they were ever made with cedar tops.

The Buck American models had paint stripes on the neck. I had one like 10 years ago when you could get them for $300-400 anywhere all the time. Ryan Adams ruined that forever.

This RK will be a really fun guitar, get it. I have been impressed with most of the Music Link brands the last few years. A LOT of guitar for hardly any money.

I noticed Dan Auerbach (of the Black Keys) has been playing one recently too.

This reminded me of one of my favorite music quotes ever--from Sonic Youth''s Thurston Moore

"Before Guns n Roses, you could get a Les Paul for like 10 bucks."

Jack White, Dan Auerbach, Ryan Adams - some others, have really KILLED the once affordable department store guitar brand market. When I first started collection, it was all I could afford, so I had a bunch of that stuff and literally all of it was under $500, even the rarest best stuff. You almost couldn't give some of it away.

At a concert a few years ago up here in MN, Ryan Adams had his Harmony Sovs and Buck American and he kept struggling to keep them in tune and finally just said "I only play these things cuz they look so cool".

He's a pretty funny and self deprecating guy, but there is certainly a lot of truth to that.
