New Song in Ancient Country Style
My Friday evening jam session is mostly people in their 60's through 80's who relentlessly play covers of ancient country gold. I occasionally write a new song to play for them, but keep it in this style they're comfortable with. For this one I gave myself the challenge of a song that mentions all 4 compass points. This is called SOUTH OF YOUR HEART.
I can never figure out the direction your love's goin' It always seems to change with the way the wind is blowin' You keep giving your heart then taking it back When it comes to love you're all over the map I'M SOUTH OF YOUR HEART I'M NORTH OF YOUR MIND I'M EAST OF YOUR ARMS YOU'RE WEST OF MINE I'M SOUTH OF YOUR LOVE I'M NORTH OF YOUR CARE I'M EAST OF YOUR TOUCH & LOST OUT WEST SOMEWHERE My dad always said "there's lots of fish in the sea" So why do I think you're the only catch for me? I still think it's worth waiting for the day You'll fall in love and be here to stay You'll stop giving your heart then taking it back Your love won't be all over the map I WON'T BE SOUTH OF YOUR HEART NORTH OF YOUR MIND EAST OF YOUR ARMS WITH YOU WEST OF MINE SOUTH OF YOUR LOVE NORTH OF YOUR CARE EAST OF YOUR TOUCH, OR LOST OUT WEST SOMEWHERE |
