Yes THIS^^^

They are trying to scam you and they can go three different ways on this one.

Either scam you on the CC payment

Get you to respond with enough info/data that they can hack your accounts

Get you to meet them and flat out rob you.

Stuff like this DOES happen all the time.

Just completely ignore them and delete any data from them, any correspondence.

If they are trying to data scam you, the more you respond the more you help them beat you.

Run away fast, while you are ahead...

duff

This is on Craigslist's front page:

https://www.craigslist.org/about/scams

I suggest you read it.

Run - run like the wind!

I listed four guitars and a motorcycle on CL a couple of weeks ago. The scammers are getting more sophisticated - they now quote the title of the ad instead of just referring to "the item". My ad clearly states "call -- no voice on the phone, no response" and I stick to that. The one that I did respond to gave two different email addresses in subsequent texts along with the sob story or "gotta have it now" language.

Humans call while spambots text or email. All deals are face to face and cash only, we meet in a public place. And I don't mention it, but I am usually carrying a sidearm.....

Default A thought

MY alarms went off also when the payment delivery means wasn't USPS. Using the mails to work a scam will upset the postal police no end, and scammers are allergic to doing business by mail.

Always surprised when this question is asked...but, this scam obviously works. So, I guess I shouldn’t be surprised.

Sounds like a scam to me. One of the first things that stands out is they are referring to the "item", not the guitar or the chair or the car or whatever you are selling.

I have experience with cashier checks that appear to clear only to find a week later that the check was phoney and the funds were removed from my account.

I realize that some people don't express themselves well when writing but the bad English is another symptom of a scam. If it were me I would not respond to them.

I'm just curious if you have ever sold something to someone and they actually paid you more than you were asking. THIS is a scam, period!

NO! NO! NO! NO!

In other words, NO!

This is a scam. It happens on craigslist a lot. I had someone try it on me.

I suggest you don't even respond.

You get the check, it clears the bank, and they pick up the merchandise. Days later the bank informs you that the check is fraudulent and they take the money out of your account.
