Purposeful intent ... I can see it in every Hatcher.

Another gorgeous creation. Awesome!

Thats probably harsh but fair, although the cocobolo fretboard awesomeness will probably do the same thing!!! I was looking for a cocobolo fretboard almost exactly like this one for a bass i recently built, but i couldn't find one I liked, I did on the otherhand find something similar in Mexican Bocote, its much subtler, but has a similar wavy pattern to it and actually went with the zebrawood top better then the cocobolo might have done.

The cocobolo trimmings here are most excellent and really do set the whole thing off, i'm intrigued as to how clear the finish will be, as in how much it will darken the guitar and if you really will lose the cocobolo trim in the mesmeralisis of looking at the maple.

Than Dave,

I didn't mean to sound harsh it was just a lot of design work to get the overall look where I wanted it and it involved a lot of time on that Cocoblo. I really just wanted to show that work.
Here is a picture with part of the back wet with naptha to give a better view of how it will look under finish;

Thanks cigarfan!

I fretted up the maple Josie and it is ready for the finish now. Here are a couple pictures of the fretted fingerboard. You can see on the second picture that the fret ends have a semi-hemispherical finish which is still a standard on my guitars;

So this one will go quiet for awhile while the finish goes on. I expect my second show spec guitar back on Friday. This is a BRW/Cedar Greta grand auditorium. I'm looking forward to having this one back in the shop!

Thanks,
Mark

That Josie looks epic, can't wait to see it back from the finisher.
Ornate but still organic, awesome!

Default More wood!

Thanks DCN!

The maple Josie was shipped off yesterday to the finisher. Which gives me time to concentrate on Tom's guitar and the clean up some of the wood I've been purchasing as of late.

Here are some pictures of wood sets and tops I think look great with them. The first is a set of a curly quarter sawn Olive wood;

Here it is with a Yellow Cedar top. This would be a very good wood for a larger guitar and the color is perfect to go with Olive wood;

Here are a couple of woods that I think would be great for trim and fretboard etc. The first is Katalox also known as Royal Mexican Ebony. The second is Macassar Ebony;

Here's a picture of a wild grained, curly, spalted Olive wood back set;

And a wet close up of that spalted figure in the center of the back;

Italian Alpine Spruce would make for a great smaller guitar like the Pina or Penelope;

So I hope someone gets inspired because I can't wait to dig into an Olive wood guitar! Thanks for checking these out.

Mark

Somewhere between El Diablo and the Easter Bunny? I was thinking an angel or a bat. Guess it can go either way!

Actually what I was asking was that I was wondering how dark it will be under finish, as to me when its wet with naptha it shows you how the figure comes out, but naptha "previews" usually seems noticeably darker then a final clear finish is, unless the finish is tinted.

Its definitely a bat!! if you run an inlayed oval round it to frame the pattern the "Hatcher Batman special edition" is born!

Thanks Dan,

You're right, naphtha helps but, usually is darker, especially where there is open grain. We'll find out soon enough!

Thanks again everyone,
Mark
