Default Moderators - the unsung heroes of this forum

Recently I replied to a post prior to committing enough “thought” to what I was actually typing and how the content would be perceived prior to hitting the “send” button. The post I initially sent would have most likely been been perceived as hurtful to the original author of the thread and not to mention that it contained vulgar language (although masked, which is still against the forum’s rules). It was a stupid mistake on my part that thankfully a watchful Moderator picked up on it short order and saved me from myself and those that may have read my thoughtless post. I appreciate the professionalism and time that these volunteers provide to make this forum one of the best I have ever been associated with.

Just wondering why in the first place you even thought of posting something like that, what ever it may have been, ... must have been a different section of the main forum.

Very, very true. However, the flip side is members like the OP who recognize that a moderated forum (as opposed to a free for all atmosphere) makes AGF the place that it is....

Fake news...I'm sure there must be at least one moderator that sings.

Agreed. I scarpered from the Usenet group RMMGA when it became overrun by spam, trolls, and flames. What had been a pleasant and informative hang out became post-apololyptic.

Moderators, thank you all.

Well said, dorney! It is through the daily housekeeping chores which our friendly Mod Squad performs so seamlessly that our forum is kept tidy and attractive. It is not easy work sometimes, and it can be thankless. May it not be so! Let's all do what we can to put them out of business, so they can just sit around and enjoy this place like the rest of us. Self moderation is always best! But when Moderation is needed, let's cooperate with graciousness and gratitude.

Moderators keep this place civil and a good place to hang and learn something new. Good on them (even when I am the one that needs moderating).

Thanks all.

The Mods do a fantastic job here on the AGF. They help keep J.R.'s place a great place to be.

Most of the internet is overrun with unnecessarily provocative and spiteful comments. The AGF, on the other hand, is a nice place to spend some time. Thanks, mods (and J.R.)!

After a while you will more or less "self moderate" yourself.

Of course we are all human and once in a while we succumb and tell someone we aren't fond of their comment and sometimes not in the most polite manner, but, I've learned to let a lot roll off my back.

The most effective way to deal with something like that IMO is not to answer.

We all need reminders though from time to time and I think the mods do a good job.

I think careful and judicious moderation, as we have here on the AGF, is what makes the AGF the safe place it is on the Internet. I have great respect for the moderators and know how much time this work takes away from their private lives and their families. It's a sacrifice the moderators make for the benefit of everyone here on the forum.

My hat is off to every one of the mods!
