Gene Liberty just built his own. He has a neck machine that is like a key machine. He did some of this in association with NIU (yes I'm a grad). Brilliant innovative builder. With really BAD web skills. guitarfix.com.
All best, Chris

Hi Chris,
There are manufactured machines like the Dupli-Carver which may be similar to what your friend built? I purchased plans and considered building my own CNC and was actually pretty close to pulling the trigger, but at the time I was swamped with orders so I couldn't afford to take time away from building guitars to build a carver or CNC. You know the old adage, time is money? So, I bit the bullet and ordered a Shop Bot. One of the best valued power tools I own, right up there with my wide belt sander. |

Gluing the heel cap on:
Routing the cavity for the truss rod: Test fit: Silicone bathtub caulk holds the rod in place and cushions it so it doesn't rattle in the slot: High tech glue spreading device distributes the glue on the neck's finger board surface in lightening fast speed. The glue holds the finger board in place after it dries: Just enough glue: Its time for the clamps: Clamps are in place and now we clean up the glue squeeze out: |

Hey Tim, it's looking great. I like your glue spreader, we use one very similar to yours. Good to see you out in the shop!

John, Mark & Steve,
Thanks for the positive words of encouragement. Its great to be back in the shop even though I'm not firing on all 8 cylinders yet. I'm optimistic though. Tom, I suspect that your spreading device taste's a wee bit better than mine when being cleaned |

So good to see you in the shop again, Tim! Next thing you know, you'll be swinging nine-irons alongside Tiger Woods....

Thanks Kurt. LOL, I can swing a 9 iron but it would have no resemblance of Tiger, even on his worst day.

I guess its time to start talking about the title of this thread "Olivewood / Redwood Siblings". Our customer came to us with an unusual request. He wanted a similar pair of guitars but the "Sibling" to the acoustic had to be an electric guitar and more specifically a Tele with some vintage vibes.
To be honest, I balked at the commission initially because building an electric was something I decided early on that I wasn't going to do. Well never say never, right? The more I thought about it the more appealing the challenge became so we agreed to tackle the project. So without further adieu here is Olive 2: Locating our script logo: We tried several locations before our cutomer decided on this one: One of us has better eyes than the other one. I only wish my eyes were 20-something again... A little ebony dust and a little glue: Plane the excess off: And its done in 5 seconds, just like on TV: |
