So, the AGF, courtesy of this very thread, has created yet more GAS, although a relatively low key form of GAS. After seeing this, I ordered a set of cocobolo buttons for my cocobolo veneer Emerald X7. Came in today. Didn't even drop a washer in the process of putting them on... Slightly different shade of cocobolo, but a nice touch on the guitar regardless. And from a tactile perspective, they FEEL great!

Never change tuner buttons in a room with shag carpeting.

Don’t ask me how I know that....

Wade,
The answer to your question is a strong magnet.

Thanks - next I'm on to the truss rod cover - going to go with a Goodall style one so there's more Koa showing. I have another nice piece of this same wood.

After I warned against changing out tuner buttons in a room with shag carpeting, BT55 replied:

Not if it's one of those clear plastic washers, which some of these tuners have at least one of per tuner....

I have two sets from Bill, Cocobolo/Ebony and Brazilian Rosewood:

I wouldn't hesitate to purchase a third set.

Those are beautiful, but to get their maximum impact you need to forget tuning and keep them aligned like this.
