Default Ode to my Tacoma...

Three years ago, I would have answered this by praising the 1.8"/24.5" necks of my favorite Seagulls. But that was then. My Tacoma Little Jumbo, listed below, has a neck so sleek and thin, but not too narrow at 1.75", that it's my new standard. While other large-handed types enjoy a beefy neck to nestle in their palm, I have to play closer to classical form, and the shallow neck helps me make the most of my short fingers. But that's just me, of course.

Love a V neck, ( or “modified” V neck), it gives a point of reference to my thumb to keep it in the middle vertically. Also have to say a short scale string tension is easy on the fret hand. Most importantly though is having a satin neck. A highly polished high gloss neck makes my fret hand harder to move up and down the neck. It’s just sticky. Regardless of my fret hand pressure delicacy. MHO

I neglected nut width. 1 & 13/16 feels best but I need the room to avoid double stringing with my fret hand middle finger which has a tip like a mushroom from a partial amputation. It happened very quickly. I’m fortunate to be able to play at all so no crying in my beer.
Trauma sucks so take good care of your hands.

Another Mod-V guy here. Electric or acoustic, I can play a “C”, as long as it’s not too skinny, but a V just feels like home. I have two Mod-V Martins, a CEO-7 and an 000-28EC, and a strat with a beefy soft-V. I have an SG with a really flat D neck, and I don’t like the neck much at all,but it’s an every now and then guitar, not a mainstay, so I don’t mind the neck too much for how I use that guitar.

I used to play anything and had a Fender acoustic with a nice shallow V that was comfortable. After a series of wrist and elbow surgeries the Martin MLO/PA taper works best for me.

My main guitar is a 1960 Martin D-18 that has (for me) a perfect neck. It is a bit meatier than most acoustics and has a nice V-shape to it. I try to replicate that feel in all my other guitars (even the electrics), but I can only get close.

With a bit of arthritis creeping in, the Martin MLO/PA neck on my OMC35e is the best playing for me. Close second is the neck on my McPherson Sable. Funny though, for me nut/neck width is not an issue.

Lowden standard 1-3/4” neck, closely followed by Martin 1-3/4” MLO w/PA Taper.

I have a early 90's Taiwan-built Takamine G330 with by far the most comfortable and easy playing neck I've ever experienced. Nothing else has come even close. Just a very round U shape with what by current standards seems like a pretty thick profile (about 0.850" deep at 1st fret). But something about that round neck and the way it transitions to the rosewood fingerboard just fits my hands like magic.

It's otherwise a fairly crummy guitar. Laminated top, back and sides, cheap tuners, etc. But I like playing it anyway because the neck is so fine!

Ditto on the Santa Cruz mod V OM.
(Mine is a custom 1 13/16 nut).
