Default The scorn and irony of social media

I post my slide show videos with my music on various social media groups on Facebook and if I'm lucky I'll get 15 likes in any one group (yes, I know, I won't quit my day job, lol, but I have fun).

I posted a picture of my dog wearing reindeer antlers on a schnauzer group in Facebook and she got 130 likes.

It's a dog's life.

Hey Barry, you're right, it's a dog's life.

I think part of it is that it only takes a person 2 seconds of their time to look at a pic but a few minutes to listen to music and appreciate it. Attention spans, lol.

For me, it's not attention span, it's location / circumstances. If I'm causally scrolling through while waiting at the BMV, I can't listen to a song but I can look at a dog pic. In fact, if I'm home with a good chunk of time, I'm doing something else and am not on social media.

There is a young man from New Foundland that does Gordon Lightfoot covers. Real nice fingerpicking style and great voice too. Many of his covers are as good as or, in some respects, better than the maestro himself. I think the most I've ever seen is 1K likes. There is another band called Fossils and Foxes. Their cover of "Suite Judy Blue Eyes" just knocks it out of the park. Ok, they racked up 1million hits and rightly so. But there are so many other great musicians that barley get a nod and a video of some dope jumping off a roof into a 2 foot pool gets 5 million. Just goes to show where peoples heads are at.

Barry! What kind of guitar does your dog play? Might be the reason. Just saying...

There is music. And then there is entertainment. When you combine them neither one will be pure. So which takes precedence in your offering? Try wearing reindeer antlers next time and see what happens.

Good music is rarely popular.

Popular music is rarely good.

Video is a different animal.

When you post yourself singing and/or playing something it's like an audition - some may like you and some may not.Your talent will probably have a lot to do with it but the world out here is not your family and with millions of posts of other people doing the same sort of thing as you, you take your chances.And- not to be mean-sometimes no comment is less hurtful.
