The quality of the upper-end Squiers really is remarkable nowadays.

A few months ago I bought a gently used J Mascis Jazzmaster off Craig's List with a hardshell case for $300, and spent another $100 or so upgrading the tremelo to a Fender USA unit and added a GFS roller bridge, both of which substantially improved it. Keep in mind that these guitars cost $450 new, and throw in another $75 or so for the Road Runner case, so this was a really solid deal.

A comparable guitar with a Fender logo on the headstock would have cost a lot more than the $$ I paid, and likely wouldn't be significantly better, if at all. I am amazed by the great value in this instrument.
