Goldtone ac 5
I'll have to say the ac 5 sounds & plays good for no more than it costs. I'd say it's an excellent starter banjo that plays good with very good tone & pretty loud too. Glad i picked it & that i am learning a little too.

I’ve got the even-cheaper AC-1, open-back and a bit more “plain Jane”. Excellent little instrument, however. Sounds good, comes well set-up from the distributor... A steal for the price.

Ac 1
Oh yeah i read the reviews & watched several videos that it was being played in & it is definitely a pretty nice banjo to either start out with or keep permanently either one. I liked what i saw.

Most do,or try to, but a banjo doesn’t have to be played Scrugg’s style. There are flatpickers and strummers, and of course fingerstyle including claw hammer. It’s a cool instrument with some great droning tunings.
