I heard about this on BBC news but I don't think they mentioned Jack White by name (a sad result for his publicist!)

However it is a lesson for us all, and I'm now working out which guitar to take busking and the best way to upset a passing madwoman!

You and me both! Maybe it's worth it to try and turn a $99 Lagrima from Amazon into a Froggy Bottom...

On a more serious note, bravo to Jack and to the folks who donated in the GoFundMe.

I do hope though that it truly was an unreasonable woman who broke his guitar. The article I've read on it made it unclear why she got in his face and smashed his guitar (it was told from his perspective pretty much like that).

It would be awful if the exchange was along the lines of: "Could you please not play right now, it's 2am and I have to get up early to work to feed my children" to which he refused and then it escalated as he kept playing against her requests into the wee hours.

But that would be too cynical, let's just hope she was off her rocker.

"This lady came up she started shouting in my face, swearing at me, telling me I wasn't playing. So I told her to *bleep* off basically - I told her to shove off, go away and leave me alone."

"So I ended up moving her bag out of the way so she grabbed my guitar and threw it on the ground."

Matt says that he thinks the woman who destroyed his guitar was drunk.

Great story! In addition to being seriously talented, it sounds like Jack White is a terrific guy. Very cool of him!

I can't help but think of rock stars who have given millions of dollars to charities without any publicity. Since they chose to do it privately I'll respect their wishes and name no names.

This Jack White story made all the newspapers so his publicity agent worked hard at distributing press releases. Do you know how much it would cost to buy advertising like that? Just sayin.

Now Karen is trying her hand at buskers.

I'm glad the story has a nice ending.

I was more picturing John Belushi in Animal House

"I gave my love a cherry that had no stone.
I gave my love a chicken that had no bone.
I gave my love a story that had no end.
I gave . . . . CRASH"

His ex-wife is named Karen. Maybe there's a subtext here.

Very cool story. I've always believed that the true definition of a "gift" is the receiver never knowing the giver.
